Understanding Full Truckload Freight

What FTL is, when to use it and how it is priced.

What is full truckload?

Full truckload (FTL) means one shipper's freight occupies a dedicated trailer from pickup to delivery. The truck travels directly without stopping at terminals to transfer freight.

When FTL makes sense

FTL is usually a good fit when a shipment is large (often 10 or more pallets), heavy, fragile or time-sensitive. Even smaller loads may move FTL when speed and limited handling are priorities.

How FTL is priced

Rates are driven by distance, lane demand, equipment type, fuel and accessorials such as detention or extra stops. Market conditions change frequently, so quotes are time-sensitive.
